Mother's Day or Free Comic Day?

In a bizarre clash of holidays, Free Comic Day and Mother's Day is happening on the same weekend. Decisions, decisions... On one hand there is a holiday that celebrates what has supported and nurtured my childhood development, and on the other hand there's Mother's Day. I'm kidding!

I started the day by going to Silver Snail and checking out their comic sale. I bought a Vertigo graphic novel and picked up a free comic. I saw a heart-warming scene when a kid who was with his father asked him: "Wow. Are these really FREE?" The Silver Snails employee responded: "They sure are kid! Do you like Batman? Here. Take a free mini-Batman toy too." The kid's face lit up like a Christmas tree. That's the true spirit of Free Comic Book Day right there.

So in case you're wondering, no I didn't ignore Mother's Day! After my visit to Silver Snail, I went to visit my grandmother. I credit my grandmother for teaching me how to be tenacious and stubborn. It's a valuable asset that has gotten me through some tough times. She was reading the newspaper. We sat and talked for a while. Whenever you have a moment, you should always talk with your grandparents.

Afterwards, I went to visit my mom. I'm actually quite thankful to my mom for a whole list of things. I recently realized that I have her to credit for my resourcefulness and creativity. I wasn't sure where it came from, but it's definitely from my mom. If anyone knows me, they know that I use those attributes on a daily basis. So thanks mom...

Okay, so my blog is a little mushier than usual. I decided to not rant about the commercialization of Mother's Day. Maybe we do need a day to sit back and think about this sort of stuff. And at the very least, we need a day when we can go to the comic store and get free stuff.
