Do video games cause violence?

This issue has been mentioned frequently, and I think it's a load of crap. Avid gamers are too busy sitting in front of a screen, letting their muscles waste away. They would lack the physical capacity to cause violence, because they would be easy to outrun and couldn't carry anything heavier than a gamepad. (I speak from experience.)

Putting this aside, there is a connection with violence and the release of the PS3 gaming system. I cite the following examples:
It's all pretty insane, considering the fact that people have generally decided that the PS3 has fallen short of expectations, and seem to be eyeing the Wii as a better deal. I don't want to be around when the Wii2 is eventually released though. Those gamers would have spent endless hours swinging their Wii nunchuks around... so an angry mob of Wii fans is really going to turn ugly fast.

PS: I plan to buy a PS2 on Boxing Day. It's signficantly cheaper and less fatal than the PS3.

I think you are right in predicting that Wii fans will be fitter and thereby more dangerous.

An Associated Press article reports that Nintendo has been forced to replace controller straps after reports that the controllers were flying out of players' hands.

My favourite excerpts from the article:
"Soon after the Wii went on sale last month, people started reporting cases of the controller's strap breaking as they waved it about vigorously."
"Wii's debuts were soon followed by reports of smashed glass and damaged television sets, while another fan apparently sprained and cut a finger on her right hand while trying to rally for a comeback victory in Wii baseball."

Wii fans will not only have a solid swinging motion but also impenetrable callouses from numerous glass cuts.

Ha! "Vigorous".
