It's been almost a month since I got my new car. It's a Mazda, and this is a grossly inaccurate photograph of what my new car looks like. Okay, my new car is NOT a Mazda RX-8 prototype... but I like it none the less.
The best part about having a car is not having to depend exclusively on the TTC to get me around. I still take the TTC from Monday to Friday, but having a car means that I'm not a slave to transit. On that note, I try to limit my driving to trips where taking transit is incredibly inconvenient.
In terms of gas prices, I can't say "Boy, filling up this tank didn't always cost this much" because I didn't have to pay for gas until recently. Ignorance is bliss, I guess. In terms of usage, I'd say that I go through half a tank of gas every 2 weeks. I don't know how that compares to you, but I think that's pretty good.
I used rent cars through Autoshare, and I'd normally get a Toyota Yaris. I've noticed that since my car is bigger than a Yaris, I've been getting a lot more respect on the road. Cars yield to me when I'm merging, as opposed to when I'm driving a Yaris. Cars don't cut in front of me as much as when I'm driving a Yaris. The list goes on. I certainly don't approve of differential treatment on the road, but it seems that bigger cars get more respect on the road.
