Closing ceremonies guitar work was faked!

During the 2008 closing ceremonies, the Olympic legacy was passed from Beijing to London. With London taking the spotlight, their stage performance featured a double-decker tranforming bus, and Jimmy Page rocking out on his guitar. Well, at least that's what the the British art directors wanted the audience to believe. Jimmy Page, lead guitarist of Led Zeppelin, seemed to put forward an excellent performance, but the reality was that all the guitar work was being done backstage.

Games organizers confirm that Jimmy Page, who performed "Whole lotta love" with vocalist Leona Lewis, was not actually playing guitar at all. Jimmy was air guitaring to the music of another guitarist who was heard but not seen, apparently because John Paul Jones was deemed "not famous enough".

"The reason was for the national interest," said Boris Johnson, the mayor of the next host city in a private interview. "The guitarist on camera should be a famous rock star, instantly recognizable in face and name... Jimmy Page is excellent in those aspects." The decision was made at the highest levels, Boris said.

"We had to do it," he said. "We'd been through several rehearsals. Zeppelin fans are very particular. When John Paul Jones practiced, there were several spectators from various countries, who gave the opinion that Jones should be swapped out and Page be swapped in."

Few who watched the Olympic ceremony realized the deception. "Jimmy Page wins heart of nation," read the headline in Monday's London Globe. But as word got out on the Internet, some British bloggers became outraged.

"If you're a bass guitarist, even of Led Zeppelin, you'll always be in the shadow of the lead guitarist. Do you know how demeaning that is to Rock Band junkies?" read one comment.

As for John Paul Jones, he's been quoted as saying he was honored to have had a role in the closing ceremonies, even though few realized just how big his part really was.

I had an inkling that Jimmy Page was faking when I noticed the multi-coloured buttons on the neck of his guitar.
But Jimmy Page is cuter than John Paul Jones so it all makes sense.

Can you back this up somehow? It looked fake to me, but yours is the only site I can find asserting such, and, although quotations are nice, you provide no external links and no hard evidence.

Well, at least now instead of feeling outraged that China would have someone prettier lip-synch at the opening, I'll go back to how I usually feel about the olympics: that it's a whole lot of effectively pointless, corrupt hooplah.

FYI: I thought it was obvious, but this blog entry is a parody, and not true to my knowledge.

I think your claim that this is fake, is fake!

Sorry, but I am too disenchanted now to believe anything anymore.
