Political Options: Vote for Failure

Dear readers,

They say that discussions of religion and politics should be avoided at the dinner table. As the last post was about religion, today's will definitely be about politics. In particular, the sponsorship scandal which the Prime Minister made a national address to discuss with the Canadian people.

So here's the deal... As it stands now, our choices of national parties are pretty bad.
  • Liberals: Supposedly left-wing, but mostly centralist party. They are supposed to be tax and spend liberals, but they seem to be tax and send to your friends liberals. They've pretty much been the only feasible choice for a federal government in the last few elections. They are now plagued with charges of corruption and mismanagement of money... something which is really not that new.
  • Conservatives: Supposely right-wing, but some fear they are radically right wing. They are a new party, and most moderates aren't too sure what to expect from them. They are traditionally in favor of cutting taxes and services, which makes them a favorite with the corporations and the rich. They have traditionally been the alternative to the Liberals, but haven't been able to get their act together.
  • New Democrats: Supposedly socialist, and they are socialist. I admit that they were my favorite party to vote for. My political leanings have been changing though, and I feel that maybe this party is socially and environmentally concious to a fault. Basically I think they would get more votes if their economic policies were stronger... or remotely realistic actually. Kudos to them for their idealism though!
  • Bloc Quebecois: Supposedly separatist, and actually just a right wing Quebec-based party that likes to toy with the idea of separatism to get what they want. It just goes to show that politics is not without a sense of humor. A federal party founded on the principle of separatism.
So those are your major options to choose from for the next federal election whenever that may be. I'll be the first (or not the first) to say that these choices are pretty sad. I mean tragically sad. I would rather be lead by a computer-based tribunal consisting of:
  • Blue Blue: The IBM super computer
  • Asimo: The Honda dancing robot
  • Speak N Spell: The Texas Instruments laptop of phonetics.
I'm telling you, they would be excellent leaders for Canada!

Big Blue: "Economic models suggest a 3.45M budget surplus."
Speak N Spell: "Pay... Off... Debt... D-E-B-T."
Asimo: "Let's dance!! Dance, you fools. Dance!"
