Okay, maybe Terry Fox would not have used those exact words, but I encourage everyone to participate in the Terry Fox Run that is happening this Sunday September 14th. For a list of run sites, visit the Terry Fox Foundation website.
From a runner's point of view, it's one of the easiest runs to join, as there is no registration fee or process. Just show up and all of your money goes directly to the charity. The important part is to run/walk/bike/rollerblade. You run as far as you want.
From a charity point of view, you're helping promote cancer research on the whole. Over the years, I've noticed that one particular type of cancer has been getting all the media attention and all the money, but the Terry Fox Foundation supports cancer research as a whole. Donations above $20 are tax-deductible. You donate or collect as much as you want.
From a Canadian point of view, Terry Fox is one of this country's true heroes. In my opinion, he should have won CBC's Greatest Canadian easily. (Tommy Douglas won. I'm sure he's a great guy and all, but my vote will always be for Terry Fox.) So in today's world of political bickering, stock market mayhem, and celebrity gossip... take a break, and devote some time in supporting a cause that is truly worthwhile. You keep his legacy alive.
Lace up those shoes!

So...are YOU running?
Yep. The North York Centre location... at 8am in the morning! It's crazy early, but I'm still going to do it.
Don't forget to wear Terry's shoes. In fact, you should wear a tight afro wig, little shorts and the message t-shirt. In this case, imitation might not be equated with flattery. In fact, you'll be running faster than you ever have before - to escape the outraged mob.
