I just watched the new Star Trek movie yesterday. In the movie, young Sulu tells Kirk that he has received advanced combat training in fencing. For those that didn't catch it, it was a reference to the ST:TOS episode called "The Naked Time". In this episode, the Enterprise crew begins to go crazy. I just watched the new Star Trek movie yesterday. In the movie, young Sulu tells Kirk that he has received advanced combat training in fencing. On the one hand, it is refreshing that they made an Asian crewman combat ready and not just the stereotypical undersized geek. On the other hand, when the hell did fencing involve acrobatics? Sulu was doing mid-air tumbles and jump kicks like Chinese gymnast/kung fu master. One step forward, one step back.
Regardless, I did enjoy Star Trek a lot, even though it is way slicker than any previous Star Trek outing.
The acrobatics are just because Sulu's so badass ;)
